Heartland CARES, Inc. Recognizes World AIDS Day
“As we mark this important day around the world, we want to remind our community that AIDS is still causing an impact here in western Kentucky and southern Illinois and that Heartland CARES is committed to providing services to all those affected.” – Donna Reeder, Heartland CARES Executive Director
Paducah, KY – Western Kentucky’s HIV and AIDS service organization, Heartland CARES, Inc., will observe World AIDS Day with a vigil and remembrance walk on Friday, December 1 at Kentucky Oaks Mall in Paducah. The walk will begin at 10:30 am inside the mall at the entrance to the former Sears store and is open to everyone.
The World Health Organization designated December 1 as World AIDS Day in 1988. World AIDS Day commemorations and celebrations have been held on December 1 every year since to offer an opportunity for people worldwide to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of the HIV infection and to mourn those who have died from the disease.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is estimated that one in eight people living with HIV do not know that they are infected. Heartland CARES provides free, fast and confidential HIV testing at 619 North 30th Street, Monday thru Thursday from 7:30 am – 5:00 pm and on Friday from 8:00 am – noon.
